YOU : ……will wake up to the morning concert of the birds and the cry of the rooster (and some times the music from the temple) and then you can ..….explore every nook and corner of the plantation, sit down everywhere, watch the birds and the other animals, examine all the different plants and trees ……take a swim in the blue water pond (seasonal) …...observe how the rubber trees are tapped and how the latex is processed through many steps until at the end the raw rubber sheets are procured …… see how the laborers are working on the compound and wonder how really every work is still done by mere handiwork …...observe how Unni climbs up the coconut palms …… put your nose in the kitchen from where rich spicy smells are emerging watch the different ways of preparing food and maybe learn an item or two …… or you may step out to the paddy fields and watch rows of women in colorful dresses planting the fresh green saplings in the sky reflecting water - or harvesting the paddy by mere handwork a few weeks later ……explore the village, it’s tiny post office where the time stands still and where it may take a good deal of time to buy a stamp …… visit the tailor to get an hand stitched Indian dress (which the local people will appreciate a lot) …… together with the fan community of the village watch the small and big kids play football on the barren paddy fields in the soft light of the evening …… maybe visit a local marriage (you will be heartily welcome) …… and when the day settles during special seasons the time for celebrations starts in the temples which are dotting the country in plenty …… you will experience thundering drum performances, see splendid elephant processions and watch several local folk and ritual dance and drama forms, also classical music and dance performances and maybe spend the full night on a Kathakali performance at a local temple together with the friendly local people. ……or you may take a bus, a rickshaw, a car or whatever and go for shopping to the next town. Indulge in the unending varieties of dress materials and collect small beautiful items you see on your way, find the typical silver ornaments and wonder about the gold jewelry shops. Visit the museum, the palace, the zoo, drink the juice of a freshly cut coconut at the roadside and go to lunch or dine in a good place…. See, hear, smell, and touch the life of India, of Kerala , in town or in the countryside…. |
